this is what we know about you when you visit, order or sign up, why, who else sees it and how long we keep it. we try to keep as little as we can.

who we are
wonky dog records is a small record label in sheffield, UK. we’re responsible for the personal data on this site (the “data controller” in UK GDPR terms). questions about any of this: hello@wonkydog.uk.
just looking around
visiting the site doesn’t set any cookies. the fonts and images all come from our own server, so your browser doesn’t contact anyone else.
we count visits with umami, which we run ourselves on our own server. it records the page you looked at, the site that sent you here, your browser, operating system, type of device and country. it doesn’t use cookies, doesn’t keep your IP address and can’t follow you around other sites. we only look at totals, like how many people visited the shop this week. it’s switched off for anyone logged in to the site.
release pages have a bandcamp play button. the bandcamp player only loads when you press it, and from then on bandcamp can see your IP address and may set its own cookies (bandcamp’s privacy policy).
when you order
at checkout we ask for your name, email, billing address and, for physical things, a delivery address. a phone number is optional. we use these to take payment, post your order, send your downloads, email you about the order, sort out refunds or problems, and keep the accounts HMRC asks for.
card payments are handled by stripe. your card details go straight to them and we never see or store them. stripe gets your name, email, billing address and the order total, and sets its own cookies on the checkout page to spot fraud.
to post your order we put your name and address on the parcel, and give them to royal mail when we buy postage.
when you download something we log the time and your IP address, to stop download links being shared around.
your basket is kept with a few cookies from the shop (woocommerce) whilst you’re browsing. they hold what’s in it and go when you close your browser or after two days.
you can tick a box at checkout to make an account, so the checkout fills itself in next time and your downloads stay in one place. logging in sets the cookies that keep you logged in. if you don’t log in for two years, we delete the account.
the newsletter
if you sign up we keep your email address, when you signed up and the IP address you signed up from (so we can show you asked to join). we email you once to confirm, and only send the newsletter after you’ve said yes. we don’t track whether you open the emails or click the links.
every newsletter has an unsubscribe link, or email us and we’ll take you off.
emails
our email (the hello@ address, order emails and the newsletter) is run by purelymail. if you email us or message us on instagram or bluesky, we keep the conversation for as long as it’s useful, and longer if it’s about an order.
who sees it
wonky dog is one person, so that’s who can see your orders and messages. we only share what’s described above: stripe for payments, royal mail for posting, purelymail for email. we don’t sell your data, and we don’t use it for advertising.
stripe and purelymail are based outside the UK. they protect the data they handle for us with the safeguards UK law asks for.
how long we keep it
orders: six years, because HMRC asks us to keep records that long. after that they are anonymised automatically. accounts: until you ask us to delete them, or two years without logging in. newsletter: until you unsubscribe. emails: as long as they are useful. visit stats: totals only, kept for as long as the site runs.
why we can use it
orders: we need it to sell you things (a contract) and to keep records (the law). newsletter: you said yes, and you can change your mind any time. visit stats and stopping fraud or download sharing: our legitimate interest in running a small shop sensibly, using as little data as possible.
your rights
you can ask for a copy of what we hold about you, ask us to correct it, delete it, or stop using it, and take it elsewhere. email hello@wonkydog.uk and we’ll reply within a month. we may have to keep order records for HMRC even if you ask us to delete them.
if you’re unhappy with how we’ve handled your data, you can complain to the information commissioner’s office, though we’d love the chance to sort it out first.
changes
if we start using something new (another way to pay, for example) we’ll update this page and the date at the top.
